Aamir Jangu, who made a splash with the bat in the ODI series against India, is now ready to leave his mark in the T20 format as well. West Indies has included him in the squad for the five-match T20 series against India. Jangu has been included in the team as cover for young wicketkeeper-batsman Jewel Andrew, who is under medical observation after suffering a finger injury during the third ODI.
According to the report of ESPNCricinfo, West Indies have included Aamir Jangu, who performed brilliantly in the ODI series, in the T20I squad as cover for Jewel Andrew. West Indies Cricket informed on October 5 that Andrew was taken to the hospital and scanned after the injury. It is a matter of relief that no fracture was found in his finger. However, his injury is being constantly monitored by the medical team and he has not been completely ruled out of the T20 series.
Injured while taking catch in third ODI
19-year-old Andrew lost his place in the second ODI against India after being dismissed without opening an account on the very first ball. He returned to the team in the third ODI. During the match, he injured his finger while taking the catch of Naman Dheer. After this he had to go to the hospital for examination. Due to injury, he did not even come to bat in West Indies’ successful run chase.
On the other hand, Jangu is in great form at the moment. In three ODI matches against India, he scored unbeaten innings of 58, 114 and 67 runs. He scored 239 runs in three matches and stood third in terms of runs scored by both the teams combined. Ahead of him were India’s Shubhman Gill with 334 runs and West Indies’ Shay Hope with 278 runs. 29-year-old Jangu made his debut in international cricket in December 2024. So far he has played seven T20 International matches for West Indies, in which he has scored 163 runs. However, his strike rate in T20 cricket has been 120.74. It is noteworthy that the first match of the five-match T20 series between India and West Indies will be played in Lucknow on Tuesday i.e. 6th October. After this, matches will be held in Ranchi on 9 October, Indore on 11 October, Hyderabad on 14 October and Bengaluru on 17 October.
