Who was C.D. Gopinath?

He was also part of the historic team that gave India its first Test win by defeating England in Chennai in 1952. His contribution in domestic cricket was also very important. He captained the Tamil Nadu team and played a big role in the team winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time in the 1954–55 season. In his first class career, he scored 4259 runs in 60 matches. Even after retiring from cricket, his association with the game continued. He was also a national selector and played the role of manager of the Indian team during the 1979 tour of England.

BCCI also expressed deep condolences on his demise and remembered his contribution. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said in an official statement that C.D. Gopinath belonged to the generation that helped shape the early years of Indian cricket. Being a part of India’s first Test win is an honor that will always be remembered. He continued to contribute to the game long after his playing days, and his association with Indian cricket remained strong over the years. BCCI expresses its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
