The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has given a befitting reply to Nepal on the issue of Lipulekh Pass. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to media queries regarding Nepal’s Foreign Ministry’s comments. Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘India’s stand in this regard has always been consistent and clear. Lipulekh Pass has been an old route of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra since 1954. Travel through this route has been going on for decades. This is not a new thing.
Such claims are not true – India
Along with this he said, ‘As far as territorial claims are concerned, India has always maintained that such claims are neither true nor based on historical facts and evidence. This kind of unilateral and arbitrary expansion of territorial claims is not acceptable.

Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘India is always ready for constructive talks with Nepal on all issues related to bilateral relations. This also includes resolving the pending border issues through dialogue and diplomacy, on which both sides have agreed.

In fact, Nepal on Sunday has objected to the plan by India and China to organize the upcoming Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lipulekh Pass. Nepal claimed that this is its territory. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Kathmandu was not consulted before finalizing the pilgrimage route. New Delhi has consistently maintained that Lipulekh is a part of India.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is organized in June and August
Nepal raised objection to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra when India announced that the Yatra would be organized between June and August. Nepal Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on social media, ‘The Government of Nepal firmly stands by its stand that Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani, located east of the Mahakali River, are its inalienable territories on the basis of the Sugauli Treaty of 1816.’
It said, ‘The Government of Nepal has reiterated its clear stand to both India and China regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which is to be conducted through the Nepalese territory of Lipulekh.’ According to the statement, even before this the Government of Nepal had requested the Government of India not to carry out activities like road construction, expansion, border trade and pilgrimage in this area.
