Once again a major upheaval has been seen in the race for wealth of India’s billionaires. According to M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026, Gautam Adani and his family have become the richest family in India. Adani family has achieved the number-1 position, leaving behind Mukesh Ambani and his family. The total wealth of the Adani family increased to ₹9.23 lakh crore, while the wealth of the Ambani family stood at ₹8.63 lakh crore.
Gautam Adani and family have secured the first position in the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026. His wealth increased by 13% to ₹9.23 lakh crore compared to last year. Whereas, Mukesh Ambani and family are at second place. His wealth declined by 10% to ₹8.63 lakh crore. That means there is a difference of about ₹59,400 crore between the two families.
In the last few years, the number-1 position between the Adani and Ambani families has changed several times. According to Hurun, Adani family was ahead in 2022, Ambani family took the lead in 2023, Adani again became number-1 in 2024, Ambani went ahead in 2025 and now in 2026, Adani family has again secured the first position.
93% jump in LN Mittal’s wealth
This year Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and family have secured the third position. His wealth increased by nearly 93% to ₹3.39 lakh crore. His business benefited from high steel prices and trade protection in Europe. Serum Institute’s Cyrus Poonawalla and family are at fourth position with wealth of ₹3.03 lakh crore. HCL’s Roshni Nadar Malhotra and family are at number five. Her wealth is worth ₹2.79 lakh crore and she remains the richest woman in India.

Number of billionaires in India at record level
The number of people in India with wealth worth at least ₹1,000 crore has increased to 1,810, according to the Hurun Rich List. The combined wealth of all of them is ₹187.5 lakh crore. At the same time, the number of dollar billionaires in India has increased to a record 391. Technology and artificial intelligence are also rapidly influencing the rich list. For the first time, AI has been included as a separate sector, in which the total wealth of 19 people is reported to be ₹3.07 lakh crore.
