PIB has denied the rumors spreading regarding change in the look of Aadhaar card. The government press agency has said that recently some such news and posts are being circulated on some news media and social media platforms, in which it is being told that by the end of the year, the format of Aadhar card can be changed to only one photo and one QR code. This is not correct. There are no plans for any such changes.

PIB has said that such news and social media posts are creating unnecessary confusion in the minds of people. Therefore, the general public is advised to ignore such news and social media posts and follow the official notices issued by UIDAI through its official social media handles and press releases issued through PIB.

Appeal to issue Aadhar card only to small children

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. It has been said in this petition that new Aadhaar cards should be made only for children up to 6 years of age, so that intruders do not have the option of getting Aadhaar cards made. The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi will hear this petition on Monday. The petition also said that Aadhaar card has become a ‘fundamental document’, which enables individuals to obtain other identity documents like ration card, residence certificate and voter identity card.

99 percent Indians have Aadhar card

The petitioner has said that UIDAI has issued 144 crore Aadhaar cards and 99 percent of Indians have been registered. Therefore, there should be strict guidelines for issuing Aadhaar cards to adolescents and adults to prevent infiltrators from obtaining identity as Indian citizens. The plea also seeks to direct the authorities to put up display boards at common service centers mentioning that the 12-digit Unique Identification Number is only “proof of identity” and not proof of citizenship, address or date of birth. Apart from all the states and Union Territories, the petition has named UIDAI (which is the Aadhaar card issuing authority) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Law and Justice and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as parties.
