Ambedkar Jayanti 2026: Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, along with being the creator of the Constitution, was a great thinker who had a deep vision about the social and political future of the country. His birth anniversary is being celebrated across the country today and people are paying homage. In this article we will share with you some excerpts from his thoughts on Pakistan and Partition in the context of his deep, far-sighted political and social understanding.
clear, practical and visionary thinking
In fact, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s thinking on the question of Pakistan was very clear, practical and far-sighted. Its complete glimpse can be found in the book written by him on Pakistan, ‘Pakistan or the Partition of India’. In this book published in 1945, he analyzed in depth the issue of partition of India and creation of Pakistan. He tried to understand the subject not on the basis of emotions but on the basis of facts and logic. He believed that the political and social differences between Hindu and Muslim societies had become so deep that ignoring them could be dangerous for the country.
It is believed that if Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s thoughts had been heeded, his advice had been followed and his warnings had not been ignored, then the horrific riots of 1947 would not have had to be endured. This could have been reduced or avoided to a great extent.
Suggestion of systematic plan for partition
He clearly warned that Hindu-Muslim tensions were not merely political differences but the result of deep social rifts. He also said that if partition becomes inevitable, it should be implemented in an orderly, planned and safe manner. At the time of partition, Ambedkar had suggested giving adequate time to the people to relocate safely and systematic planning by the government.
In the book Pakistan or the Partition of India, published in 1945, he argued that if the partition of India was absolutely necessary, there should be a complete and mandatory exchange of Hindu and Muslim populations. His logic behind this was that all Hindus from Pakistan should come to India and all Muslims from India should go to Pakistan. His idea was that if Pakistan is formed then it should be completely homogeneous, so that there is no communal tension and violence.
Forced unity is not a permanent solution
Ambedkar also said that if Muslims are adamant on the demand for a separate nation, then instead of rejecting this demand completely, its consequences and implications should be evaluated with a cool mind. He believed that maintaining unity by force could not be a permanent solution.
However, he did not support the idea of Pakistan indiscriminately. He also raised serious questions on its economic, administrative and military aspects. Ambedkar warned that relations between the two countries could remain tense after partition and could lead to long-term instability.
Lack of foresight in the decision of partition
Although it would not be completely correct to say that if everything Ambedkar had said, the riots would not have happened at all, but it can definitely be said that if his warnings and suggestions were taken seriously, the scale of violence and suffering could have been reduced to a great extent. The riots that took place during partition, the death of lakhs of people and the displacement of crores of rupees prove how heavy a lack of preparation and foresight can be. In major social and political decisions, solid planning, foresight and safety of human life should be given top priority rather than emotions.
