Hyderabad/New Delhi: The political debate on the issue of women’s reservation has intensified. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday targeted the Central government using a dialogue from the movie ‘Dhurandhar’. Revanth Reddy said, ‘We are already injured, don’t make us fatal.’ In fact, South Indian states feel that if 50% seats are increased to implement the Women’s Reservation Bill, then it will increase the dominance of North Indian states in the country’s politics, which they are calling injustice to the South Indian states.

‘…then it would be injustice to the South Indian states’

According to South Indian states, the population growth rate of South Indian states is much lower than that of North Indian states due to better implementation of population control programs in the country. In such a situation, if by increasing the seats by 50 percent, the dominance of North Indian states in the country’s politics increases, then it will be injustice to the South Indian states. They also say that they should not be penalized for controlling their population due to better implementation of population control programs.

‘The difference in the ratio of seats should remain the same as it is now’

Revanth Reddy said that while on one hand the South Indian states have worked on population control, their contribution to the country’s GDP is more than that of the North Indian states. Therefore, according to him, the difference in the ratio of seats between South and North India should remain the same as it is now. For example, he said that at present there are 80 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, and after the increase of 50 percent seats, this figure will increase to 120, whereas in Tamil Nadu, there are currently 40 seats which will increase to 60 after the increase of 50 percent seats. In this way, the current difference of 40 seats between Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will increase to 60.

‘Sonia demands reservation for OBC women’

Revanth Reddy says that it should be ensured that the difference in seats remains the same as it is now. Let us tell you that Revanth Reddy is not the only Chief Minister who talks like this. Apart from him, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had also posted on social media on Thursday calling it a big injustice to the states of South India. According to sources, in the Congress Working Committee meeting held on Friday regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that under reservation within reservation, there should be reservation for women of OBC community as well.
