Another incident of AC blast has come to light in Delhi. A retired IAS officer died due to an AC blast in his house in the Hauz Khas area of the capital. Even before this, several people of the same family had died in a fire caused by an AC blast in East Delhi. AC blast incidents have now become common in summer. Mistakes made in the maintenance and use of AC lead to explosion, which also causes loss of life and property. Why does explosion happen?
The main reason for AC blast is its maintenance and component failure. Especially if the AC compressor overheats and gas leaks, there is a possibility of fire. The refrigerant gas used in air conditioners is highly flammable. As the compressor heats up it can catch fire from the leaking gas.
How to avoid?
- To prevent AC from fire, it is important to get it serviced from time to time. Always get the servicing done from an authorized service center only.
- If there is less cooling in the AC, immediately get it checked to see if gas is leaking. There is a high risk of fire if gas leaks.
- AC should not be run at the lowest temperature for a long time. This puts pressure on the compressor and can cause fire due to overheating.
- Also, the AC wire should also be checked. Old wires may cause short-circuit, which can cause fire.
- There is a possibility of fire if the AC is run continuously for 15 to 20 hours. After running the AC for a few hours, it should be switched off for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Always run the AC in auto mode and keep the temperature between 24 to 28 degrees. By doing this there will be no pressure on the AC compressor and there will be savings in electricity bills too.
- While servicing the AC, get deep cleaning done so that the dirt in the cooling coil gets cleaned. Due to dirt, the AC is not able to cool properly and there is more stress on the compressor.
- Make sure to install a stabilizer in the AC so that voltage fluctuations can be prevented. By doing this the circuit will not be damaged and the possibility of fire will be reduced.
