A very sad news has come out from Dhenkanal district of Odisha. A major accident happened here on Sunday evening. During the preparations for the traditional ‘Dand Yatra’ in Patala village under Balimi police station of Hindol area, three youths died on the spot due to electric shock, while two other youths were seriously injured.
Young men were working on setting up tents
The deceased have been identified as Sudhakar Sahu, Pintu Sahu and Milan Mahalik. All these youths were participating in the traditional Dand Yatra organized in the village and were working on setting up tents for the programme.
iron pipe touched by electric wire
According to the information, this accident happened when the youth were setting up a tent. While setting up the tent, the iron pipe being used suddenly came in contact with the 11 KV power line passing above. As soon as the iron pipe touched the electric wire, a strong current flowed through it and all three youths got caught in it. The current was so strong that all three died on the spot.
Preparations were going on for the dance program
This incident is being reported around 8 pm, when preparations were going on for a dance program in the village. The atmosphere was festive, but within no time this happiness turned into mourning.
The injured were admitted for treatment
Two other youths, Prafulla Sahu and Nirmal Sahu, were also seriously injured in this accident. He was immediately taken to Angul District Hospital for treatment. Due to his critical condition, he was later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, where he is undergoing treatment.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and started investigating the matter. The police is trying to find out how such a huge negligence happened and whether adequate security arrangements were made or not.
