New Delhi: BJP is in action mode on the controversial statement given by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge against PM Modi. BJP has reached the Election Commission against Kharge’s statement and lodged a complaint.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has given information about this by posting on Instagram. He said, “We have lodged a strong complaint against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his shocking and shameful statement in which he has called Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “terrorist”. This is not only derogatory but also a dangerous attack on democratic institutions. This is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Immediate action is mandatory.”

What controversial statement did Mallikarjun Kharge give?

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Chennai had said, “How can these people (AIADMK) associate with Modi? He is a terrorist. He does not believe in equality. His party does not believe in equality and justice. And these people associating with him, means they are weakening democracy.”

After this statement of Kharge, BJP had expressed a lot of displeasure. On Kharge’s statement, Tamil Nadu election in-charge and Union Minister Piyush Goyal had said, “I feel ashamed that Congress and DMK have resorted to such a despicable act that they are insulting the Prime Minister democratically elected by the people of India by calling him a terrorist. Rahul Gandhi and MK Stalin should apologize for this grave insult to the Prime Minister and the people of India who voted them to power. With this statement, Congress and DMK have hurt 140 crore Indians. Including our 8 crore Tamil brothers and sisters, who have been humiliated.”

Kharge gave clarification

When the controversy escalated after Kharge’s statement, Kharge also gave his clarification and said, “Because the BJP government is intimidating political parties and especially the candidates. They are using and misusing institutions like CBI, ED and Income Tax Department. They are creating fear among the people so that they feel that the government is powerful enough to target opposition parties also. It is in this context that I had said this. I never said that he (PM Modi) is a terrorist. That’s what I meant when I said that he and his government are scaring people by using these institutions.
