Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has taken a strict stance on the famous road rage incident in Guwahati, saying that there is no place for incidents like road rage in the state. He clearly said that strict action will be taken against anyone who takes law into his hands. The Chief Minister also clarified that the main accused in this case, Abhilash Dutta, has no connection with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The incident went viral on social media
Actually, this matter came into discussion after a video of a fight on the road in Guwahati went viral on social media. After the video surfaced, anger among the people increased and the police took action and arrested two accused. Guwahati Police arrested Abhilash Dutta and Mirin Talukdar, residents of Chandmari, late on Monday night. Both are to be presented in court on Tuesday. In this matter, a case has been registered in Latashil police station under case number 45/26.
Controversy started regarding overtaking
The victim, who is a resident of Silchar, said in his complaint that the dispute started over overtaking of a vehicle. According to him, he overtook Abhilash Dutta’s car, after which an altercation took place between the two. After some time the dispute escalated and the accused beat him up. The victim also alleged that during the assault, the accused threatened him with dire consequences and even killed him.
Police investigating all aspects
Reacting to the matter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said on Tuesday that ‘there is no place for incidents like road rage in Assam. Strict action will be taken as per law against anyone involved in such cases. The Chief Minister also put an end to the discussions on social media and other mediums about the accused being associated with BJP and clarified that Abhilash Dutta has no connection with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Guwahati Police said that investigation into the case is ongoing. During the investigation, all aspects will be investigated in detail and further legal action will be taken based on the facts that emerge.
