Coimbatore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing an election rally in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the state’s ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He alleged that DMK’s policy is ‘by the family, for the family’ and there is a ‘competition for plunder’ among the family members in the party. The Prime Minister said, ‘Two things have increased to record levels in Tamil Nadu in the last 5 years, first, the wealth of a single family and second, the increasing debt of the state.’

‘The family is getting richer, the debt on the public is increasing’

PM Modi alleged that the top family of DMK is continuously getting richer, while the debt burden on the common people is increasing. He said that power and influence in the state is limited to a single family. Addressing the public, the Prime Minister said, ‘The Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and a prominent MP in Delhi are all from the same family. Even the film industry and media institutions are under the control of the same family. He also alleged that even senior party leaders have to bow before the junior members of the family.

‘There is a competition between son and son-in-law as to who will loot more’

In his speech, the Prime Minister said, ‘Whenever I meet the people of Tamil Nadu, they tell me that there is fierce competition in the family here. This competition is between son and son-in-law. They are competing on who will loot more. PM Modi further said that Tamil Nadu needs ‘visionary governance’ and not ‘loot by son-in-law or son-in-law’. In the same context, he also targeted the DMK and its Delhi-based ally, saying that there is a similarity between the two, in both cases the son-in-law has done ‘wonderful’ work.

‘NDA will come to power and DMK will be out’

Expressing confidence in the rally, Prime Minister Modi said, ‘The people of Tamil Nadu are giving a clear message that NDA will come to power and DMK will be out.’ Let us tell you that the upcoming elections in the state are to be held on 23rd April, while the counting of votes will be done on 4th May. The main contest in this election is believed to be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance, i.e. NDA, which is led by AIADMK and has BJP and PMK as its allies.
