Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Vijay’s TVK and Congress are the major parties in the state.

In 2021, Coimbatore South Assembly seat was won by BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan by defeating MNM’s Kamalhasan by a margin of 1728 votes. In the year 2016, ADMK’s Arjunan had won this seat by defeating Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar S by a margin of 1,74,19 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, DMK candidate Ganapathy Rajkumar won from Coimbatore South assembly constituency by defeating BJP’s Annamalai by a margin of 1,00,000 votes.
