FSSAI has issued notices to many companies involved in food business including Bikanerwala, Marico Limited and Param Dairy. These notices have been issued in view of alleged misleading claims about products, violation of labeling norms and customer complaints. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said in a social media post that it has issued notices to several food business operators.
These are accused of violating the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006, including misleading brand names, trade names, product claims, violation of labeling norms and other complaints from customers. Companies have been instructed to take corrective steps.
Why was the notice sent to Bikanerwala?
FSSAI has issued a notice to Bikanerwala on a customer complaint regarding “alleged concerns regarding hygiene in the food service area or kitchen premises”. The authority said that a complaint was received against Bikanerwala through social media. It was alleged that an employee was eating food in the service or kitchen area of the establishment during working hours. This raises concerns about sanitation and hygiene practices on campus.
FSSAI has also directed Bikanerwala to submit an action taken (ATR) containing details of action taken against the concerned employees if the allegations are found to be true. The company must ensure compliance with hygiene and sanitation requirements in accordance with food safety legislation.
What was the complaint regarding Param Dairy
Apart from this, FSSAI has also issued a notice to Param Dairy on a customer complaint. The complaint alleged presence of fungus in ‘curd’ and ‘rabri’ supplied through IRCTC catering services. Information has been sought about the product supplied from Param Dairy and the food business operators from whom the product was purchased. Following this complaint, instructions have been given to take corrective steps and submit an action report.
Which irregularities were detected in Marico Limited?
In another case, FSSAI has issued a notice to Marico Ltd for its product ‘Saffola Total Heart Pro-Multi Source Cooking Oil’. FSSAI said front-of-pack claims like ‘good fats balance’ and ‘losorb for less oil absorption’ need to be scientifically proven.
