Air India’s first refurbished aircraft reached Delhi, Boeing 787-8 had taken off from California.

The airline company had announced an investment of $400 million three years ago for a comprehensive renewal of its fleet of wide-body aircraft. Tata Group’s airline company said in a statement that the aircraft with VT-ANT registration took off non-stop from San Bernardino International Airport in America and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital Delhi at around 10 pm. The plane reached Delhi after getting regulatory approval and clearance.

The aircraft has undergone extensive interior modifications at Boeing’s modification facility in Victorville, California. Subsequently, it was painted in the new Air India livery at AeroPro, an FAA Part-145 certified aircraft painting unit located in California. The airline company said that after getting the necessary regulatory approvals and clearance, the aircraft completed its journey from San Bernardino to Delhi without any problems.

Air India will refurbish a total of 26 aircraft

Air India said this marks the completion of the comprehensive overhaul of the first Boeing 787-8 aircraft under its 26 aircraft refurbishment programme. Advanced seats, entertainment systems and premium economy cabins have been added to the refurbished aircraft. The airline’s wide-body fleet is primarily composed of Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 777 aircraft. These aircraft are especially used for long distance travel to Europe, America and the Far East. Air India had announced plans to refurbish its 27 Dreamliner and 13 B777 aircraft with an investment of $400 million in December 2022. However, the project was delayed due to supply chain and geopolitical reasons.
