Panchmahal: Regarding Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s controversial statement on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior party leader Prithviraj Chavan has said that Kharge has made a mistake and he should clarify his statement. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Chavan, while talking to journalists in Godhra, Gujarat on Tuesday, said that the leader of any political party should not leave the dignity of his language. He also said that leaders should maintain decency even when opposing each other. Also, he said that BJP leaders should also take care of their language.
Kharge had given controversial statement in Patna
Mallikarjun Kharge had made controversial remarks during a program in Patna, the capital of Bihar on Sunday. This program was organized on the occasion of the 139th birth anniversary of the first Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Krishna Singh. In the program, Kharge had talked about sending people involved in alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list to jail. Meanwhile, a person present in the audience said that until there is no rebellion, Prime Minister Modi will not go anywhere. To this Kharge replied, ‘Modi’s father will also go.’
‘Leaders should not leave the dignity of language’
Prithviraj Chavan said that he believes that the leader of any political party should use civilized language. He said that if Kharge has said something like this even unknowingly, then he should give an explanation on this. Chavan said that political leaders should exercise restraint in their statements and both the parties should understand their responsibilities in such matters. He said that even being a leader’s seniority does not give him the right to compromise on the dignity of language.
‘Earlier there used to be debates in Parliament, but personal relationships were good’
Chavan also expressed concern over the changing behavior in politics. Recalling his days as an MP, he said that leaders of different parties used to have heated arguments with each other in the Parliament, but outside the House their relations were normal and cordial. He said that there used to be vigorous debates in Parliament with leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sushma Swaraj and Jaswant Singh. Many times conflict situations arose, but there was no bitterness in relations outside the House. Chavan said that now the situation has changed. It seems that political antagonism has been replaced by personal enmity between the leaders of the opposition parties. (Input: Dakhesh Shah)
