Preparations to connect different expressways of Uttar Pradesh have intensified. Four important link expressway projects were approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. With the completion of these projects, connectivity between Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Purvanchal and Ganga Expressway will be improved. This is expected to benefit passengers as well as industries and freight traffic. A total of 22 proposals were approved in the meeting.

The government plans to connect the major expressways of the state into a big network. For this, four link expressway projects have been given green signal.

  1. Agra-Lucknow to Purvanchal Link Expressway: This 51 kilometer long expressway is estimated to cost Rs 4,776 crore. It will directly connect the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway. This will make travel between eastern and western UP easier. The need for heavy vehicles to pass through Lucknow city may also be reduced.
  2. Farrukhabad Link Expressway: The estimated cost of this 91 kilometer long expressway is Rs 7,489 crore. It will start from Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Etawah and connect to Ganga Expressway near Hardoi via Farrukhabad. The government has set a target to complete it in one and a half years.
  3. Jhansi Link Expressway: The aim of this 115 km long project is to connect Jhansi with Bundelkhand Expressway. This is expected to boost industrial activities in the Bundelkhand region. Also, it can be easy to reach tourist destinations like Defense Industrial Corridor of Jhansi and Orchha.
  4. Jewar Link Expressway: There is a plan to connect Noida International Airport to Yamuna Expressway and Ganga Expressway through this approximately 74 kilometer long project. This can provide better connectivity to the movement and freight movement from Western UP to Purvanchal.

Target to be completed in three years

These link expressway projects will be constructed on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) model. Under this, the construction agencies will have to shoulder the responsibility of maintaining and repairing the road for the next five years after its construction. The government has set a target to complete these projects in three years.
