New Delhi: Union Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy has accused Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of offering an alleged ‘supari’ (contract killing) of Rs 600 crore to politically eliminate the family of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
His allegation heated up the political atmosphere of Karnataka. These allegations have brought a new twist to the ongoing controversy over an alleged sting operation involving former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Kumaraswamy on Sunday alleged that Shivakumar was behind several conspiracies targeting the Deve Gowda family. He also termed the alleged Rs 600 crore deal as one such attempt, which has further intensified the war of words between the JDS leader and the Karnataka Congress leadership.
What did Kumaraswamy say?
Kumaraswamy told reporters, “It is none other than the present Chief Minister who had given the order to eliminate our family. This Chief Minister has hatched many conspiracies to eliminate our family. One of them is the Rs 600 crore ‘supari’ (betel nut for murder) deal.”
However, these serious allegations have not been confirmed. The existence of this alleged deal has not been confirmed in any publicly available investigation report nor has Shivakumar’s involvement been proven in it.
What is this controversy about?
Actually, Kumaraswamy’s latest allegations are regarding an alleged ‘sting operation’ related to Siddaramaiah. In this case, questions are being raised regarding the sting recordings, their dissemination and their possible political consequences. The JDS leader had earlier also alleged that Shivakumar had used the material of this alleged sting operation to influence the Congress leadership and demand a change in the post of Karnataka Chief Minister.
Kumaraswamy claims that the recording of this operation was presented before the Congress high command. The allegation is that this was used to put pressure on Siddaramaiah to resign, so that the way could be cleared for Shivakumar to become the Chief Minister. These claims are still just allegations that have not been confirmed. There is no concrete evidence to prove that these recordings were actually used for this purpose.
Earlier, DK Shivakumar had made a big claim and said that ‘I and the Kerala CM were spied on through Meta glasses’.
