UP Rajya Sabha Elections: BJP announces names of 8 candidates, Dharampal Singh gets a chance; Hardeep Singh Puri’s card cut

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the list of its candidates for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections 2026 to be held in Uttar Pradesh. The Central Election Committee of the party has given the final approval to the names of the candidates for 8 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh. According to the information released by the party, this list has been released by BJP’s national headquarters in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh.

This time BJP has given opportunity to many new faces. At the same time, current Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has not found a place in this list. Let us tell you that Elections for 10 Rajya Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh on October 16 Has to happen.

The names of Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan and Shruti Gangwar are included in the list of candidates announced by BJP for Rajya Sabha elections.

About 8 Rajya Sabha candidates announced by BJP-

  1. Dharampal Singh- He is the Livestock Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government and also a leader of BJP. He is an MLA from Amla assembly seat of Bareilly. He has been a minister twice in the Yogi Adityanath government.
  2. Radhakant Ojha- Senior advocate and former president of Allahabad High Court Bar Association. He is a very reputed and senior advocate of Prayagraj. He has been elected President of Allahabad High Court Bar Association twice and is a big face in the legal and social fields.
  3. Prakash Pal- He is the state president of Uttar Pradesh BJP OBC Morcha. Before this, he had held the responsibility of regional president of BJP’s Kanpur-Bundelkhand region. Currently, as the State President of Uttar Pradesh BJP’s OBC Morcha, he is strengthening the organizational structure of the party.
  4. Vidyasagar Sonkar- He is counted among the senior Dalit leaders of BJP. He has been a former MP and former Member of Legislative Council (MLC). Sonkar, who comes from Jaunpur, has also held important responsibilities in the party like State General Secretary and Deputy Leader in the Legislative Council. He has been a Lok Sabha MP from Jaunpur (Machlishahar).
  5. Gopi Krishna Pandey- He is a senior organizer and party official of BJP. There are senior and dedicated leaders of BJP, who have been conducting the organizational work and campaigns of the party at the grassroots level for a long time.
  6. Priyanka Singh Rawat- She is a former Lok Sabha MP from Barabanki. She is the main female face of Uttar Pradesh BJP. She has been the MP of the 16th Lok Sabha from Barabanki constituency and plays an active role in the organization at the national and state level.
  7. Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan- He is the state general secretary of Uttar Pradesh BJP and in-charge of the western region. He has been a BJP MLA from Etmadpur Assembly seat of Agra from 2017 to 2022. Has been playing an active role in the organization for a long time.
  8. Shruti Gangwar- She is the chairperson of Bareilly’s Urban Co-operative Bank and a social worker. He is a passout from IIT. Shruti Gangwar is the daughter of senior BJP leader and Governor Santosh Gangwar and is very active socially and politically in Bareilly-Baheri area.

After the names of the candidates were announced by BJP, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated all the candidates. He wrote on social media platform

Hardeep Singh Puri did not get ticket

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s name is not in the BJP list. This has put an end to the discussions in which the possibility of sending him back to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh was being discussed. Apart from Hardeep Singh Puri, the names of Arun Singh and Neeraj Shekhar are also included among the Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh whose tenure is expiring.
