New Delhi: The Indian government has once again warned Indian citizens against joining the Russian armed forces. The Foreign Ministry has said that joining the Russian Army is extremely risky. The ministry has appealed to Indians not to fall prey to unconfirmed offers in the name of jobs abroad. The government has been continuously warning Indian citizens about the risks and dangers involved in such cases for the last 2 years.

‘Cases of joining army due to greed for money’

The MEA said that several such cases have come to light in which people themselves sought offers to join the Russian armed forces. They hoped that in return they would get financial benefits and later with the help of the Indian government, they would get out of there. The Ministry of External Affairs clearly stated that this route is dangerous and the government strongly discourages Indian citizens from taking such a step.

Russian passport giving up Indian citizenship!

The ministry also said that some people have contacted Indian authorities expressing their desire to voluntarily give up Indian citizenship, obtain Russian passports and then join the Russian armed forces. According to MEA, some people took such a step without consulting Indian authorities. They were lured by temporary financial gain. The government has appealed to the people to understand the seriousness of such steps and the deadly dangers associated with it.

Recruitment through non-public organizations also

The Foreign Ministry said that foreign citizens are also being recruited into the Russian Armed Forces through non-public organizations. These also include voluntary groups. The ministry said that Indian citizens should stay away from any such steps. The government has specifically warned that such a step taken for short-term economic gain can create serious and fatal risks.

Government keeps an eye on the security of Indians present in Russia

MEA said the Indian government is in constant touch with the Russian side. Its objective is to ensure the safety, welfare and early release of all Indian nationals serving in the Russian Armed Forces. The ministry said that talks are ongoing with Russia in this direction.

Avoid job offers from unverified agents

The Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian citizens to do thorough research before accepting any job offer abroad. In particular, people have been asked to be cautious about offers received from such agents who are not registered with the Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry has appealed to people to proceed only with job information from verified and trusted sources.
