There is important information for the devotees going for darshan in Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri. On Wednesday i.e. 30th September, due to banalagi policy of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, darshan will be closed for common devotees for a few hours. According to the information issued by Shri Jagannath Temple Administration, public darshan will be temporarily closed from 6 pm to 10 pm. The temple administration has appealed to the devotees to plan their journey accordingly, so that they do not face any problem after reaching the temple.
Devotees will not be able to have darshan from 6 pm to 10 pm
According to the information of the administration, Lord’s Bankalagi Niti will be completed on 30th September on Ashwin Krishna Chaturthi date. This ritual will start after the completion of the second Bhog Mandap Bhog. During the Bankalagi policy, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Mandir remain closed for common devotees. During this period devotees are not allowed to have darshan of God. Therefore, the devotees who are planning to visit Puri Shrimandir on Wednesday will have to take special care of the evening time. Public darshan will not be possible for four hours from 6 pm to 10 pm.
What is Bankalagi ritual?
Bankalagi policy is also called Shrimukh Shringaar. This is one of the important and special religious traditions of Srimandir. During this, the faces of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan seated on the Ratna Throne are specially decorated. In this process, the faces of the Gods and Goddesses are redecorated using natural colours. This is considered a special and secret ritual.
Bankalagi Niti may take about four to five hours to complete. During this period, all the doors of the temple remain closed and the darshan of common devotees is prohibited. Datta Mahapatra performs this special service according to the Sevayat tradition. Natural materials and colors are used to adorn the face of the Lord. The temple administration has appealed to the devotees to plan to reach Shrimandir keeping in mind the timings of Bankalagi policy. On September 30, public darshan will be closed from 6 pm to 10 pm. After the completion of the rituals, darshan will be resumed for the devotees as per the prescribed procedure. Earlier in June also, the doors of Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri were closed for five hours.
