DMK’s big bet amid conflict with Congress, said this on the proposal to remove Gyanesh Kumar

Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or DMK said on Tuesday that it will support the motion brought by the opposition in Parliament to remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post. However, the party clarified that it is not a part of the INDIA block. DMK spokesperson TKS Ilangovan said that whenever the opposition opposes BJP on any issue, his party will also stand with it. Let us tell you that almost the entire opposition including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is attacking Gyanesh Kumar.

‘We are not part of the INDIA block’

Speaking to reporters, TKS Ilangovan said that the opposition parties stand together ideologically on many issues, but this does not mean that his party is part of the INDIA block. He said,

‘Ideologically we the opposition stand together. We are not part of INDIA block. This is a different thing. But if anyone brings a motion in Parliament to remove Gyanesh Kumar, we will support it, because our leader (DMK chief MK Stalin) has issued a statement in this regard.

He gave this answer to a question asked about the current situation of INDIA block and relations between Congress and Samajwadi Party.

Stalin has demanded removal of Gyanesh Kumar

Let us tell you that DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had demanded the removal of Gyanesh Kumar from the post on September 23. He had said that Gyanesh Kumar has no right to continue in his post. Quoting the same statement, Ilangovan said that supporting the motion against Gyanesh Kumar in Parliament does not mean that DMK has again become a part of the INDIA block. Opposition parties are already trying to bring a resolution in Parliament to remove Gyanesh Kumar.

Why has the distance increased between Congress and DMK?

Ilangovan also said many things regarding DMK’s relations with Congress. He said that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is also not attending the meeting like DMK and Congress party is behind this. He alleged that Congress had supported TVK in Tamil Nadu ‘to get two ministerial posts’. He said that Congress has made it clear that it will continue with TVK in future also. Ilangovan said,

‘They are not in our alliance. How can we support them? How can we go to the meeting called by him?

Ilangovan also said that Congress made a mistake by abandoning DMK and allying with TVK.
