How is the situation on the China border?
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Monday that the situation on the China border is stable. However, it remains sensitive and requires constant vigilance. He also said that more than 1100 ground level talks take place every year between the two armies to prevent misunderstandings and resolve day-to-day border issues.
‘Issues are resolved through dialogue’
General Upendra Dwivedi said that the disengagement agreements have played an important role in bringing stability at the ground level and both sides are being more responsive to each other’s concerns. “The entire situation is being handled through well-established mechanisms. Whenever local issues arise due to differing views on the LAC (Line of Actual Control), they are resolved through army-to-army talks, hotlines, flag meetings and commander-level meetings. These mechanisms have helped in maintaining stability and facilitating day-to-day activities like patrolling and other local activities in the border areas,” he said.
‘Indian Army’s priorities are clear’
General Dwivedi said the Indian Army’s priorities are clear: “First, we have to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC. Second, we want to resolve local issues through dialogue and established mechanisms. Third, we are committed to maintaining a strong and credible deployment to deter any potential threat. At the same time, we continue to strengthen infrastructure, logistics, surveillance capabilities and overall operational preparedness along the northern borders.” He said that the Indian Army is committed to dialogue and dialogue wherever needed. He further said, “However, our approach is based on ‘peace through strength’. The Indian Army’s stance on the LAC will remain strong, reliable, alert and fully capable of protecting India’s territorial integrity and national interests.”
