Tharoor said – protest on Gandhi Jayanti, Kharge said – you also come, don’t just keep writing articles in English newspapers.

Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, suggested at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today that the party should hold a big protest on Gandhi Jayanti. On this, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that you too will participate in the strike, do not write articles only in English newspapers. On hearing this, the leaders present in the meeting laughed.

When Tharoor suggested a dharna, Kharge said this

In fact, the Congress Working Committee meeting on Tuesday lasted for about two and a half hours, in which many leaders praised Rahul Gandhi. The party’s future action plan was also discussed in the meeting. Along with this, an atmosphere of light conversation and laughter was also created in between.

When Shashi Tharoor suggested that Congress should organize an event on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He argued that if this was not done then BJP could use this opportunity to build its image. Then Kharge turned to Tharoor and asked if the party organized such an event, would he actually attend it or would he just be seen on X and read his articles in English newspapers. On hearing this, smiles appeared on the faces of many leaders and they laughed.

Tharoor was also taunted in the last meeting

Let us tell you that this is not the first time that Mallikarjun Kharge has taken a dig at Shashi Tharoor. Earlier in the last Congress Working Committee meeting too, Kharge had said without taking name that the leaders who wrote articles in English newspapers and wore suits did not say anything about his insult in Haridwar. Taking a direct dig at Tharoor, Kharge had said, “The good-looking leader who is popular on TV and writes articles in newspapers should have raised the issue of purification in the same spirit.”

At the same time, last year Shashi Tharoor had written an article praising PM Modi, due to which differences of opinion within the Congress came to light. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge himself had made a quip about Shashi Tharoor.
