The Meteorological Department has issued red alert in many districts even today. The pilgrimages to Amarnath and Vaishno Devi have also been stopped. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has also issued a rain warning in UP and Delhi-NCR today.
Possibility of light rain in Delhi-NCR
The humid heat continues in Delhi-NCR for the last several days. However, now the people of Delhi-NCR are likely to get relief from the heat. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of humidity and light rain on Sunday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Sunday. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of light rain in Delhi-NCR on Sunday. However, despite the rain, the weather may still be hot and humid.
Rain today in many districts of UP
Talking about UP, the Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy sky in Lucknow and surrounding areas on Sunday. However, the Meteorological Department has also predicted intermittent rain and thundershowers. IMD has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at a few places over Western Uttar Pradesh, while isolated heavy rainfall at isolated places may occur over Eastern Uttar Pradesh and very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Whereas in UP, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26 degrees Celsius. Chances of rain in MP also
According to government data in MP, 35 districts of the state have received less than normal rainfall so far this monsoon. Senior meteorologist of Bhopal office of Meteorological Department, S.N. Sahu said that the rainy season is expected to start in Madhya Pradesh from Sunday. According to government data, the districts which have received less rainfall include Chhindwara, Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar, Mandla, Mauganj, Narsinghpur, Pandhurna, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Shahdol, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Umaria and Alirajpur. Other districts include Barwani, Betul, Datia, Dhar, Jhabua, Morena, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Anuppur, Balaghat, Chhatarpur and Vidisha.
Red alert of heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir

Amarnath Yatra and Vaishno Devi Yatra stopped
Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended from July 19 in view of the forecast of bad weather. Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Anshul Garg said in a statement, “In view of the inclement weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department (IMD), as a precautionary measure for the safety and well-being of the devotees, Shri Amarnathji Yatra will remain temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes from July 19.” While confirming the suspension of Vaishno Devi Yatra, an official in Jammu said, “In view of the inclement weather warning of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), As a precautionary measure for the safety and well-being of the pilgrims, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra will be stopped for some time.”
Rain caused havoc in Himachal
The effect of the fast pace of monsoon is now being seen in the hilly states. There was sudden flooding in the drain due to cloud burst in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. After this incident of cloud burst near ITBP camp, big stones started flowing down from the mountain. Sangla-Chitkul road was completely damaged due to huge amount of debris. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in the hilly states of the country from today till July 24.
Rain alert till 24th July
IMD Senior Scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said, “Monsoon conditions are likely to become active across the state from the night of July 18. Due to this, there may be heavy rains at some places in districts like Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on Sunday. ‘Yellow’ alert of heavy rains has been issued for these districts. There will be a period of rain in the entire state from late night of July 19 till July 24. Monsoon will be very active. “Due to this, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over some areas – especially the middle altitude hill districts. This weather activity is expected to be quite intense, especially on July 20 and 21.”
Red alert for today in many districts
Sandeep Kumar Sharma further said, “‘Red alert’ has been issued for certain districts and the Meteorological Department has also given necessary advisories. The current phase of weather is expected to intensify further on July 20 and 21. ‘Red alert’ has been issued for Chamba, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts for July 20 and for Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur and Kullu districts for July 21. As this phase of weather will continue to increase across the state, the water level in major rivers may rise, resulting in flash floods. As per the current advisory, people have been asked to stay away from large water bodies like rivers and streams. There may also be a possibility of sudden increase in water flow in local drains and landslides and mudslides in some areas. Therefore, whenever people travel, they are advised to follow the road advisories issued by the State Government and keep an eye on the weather related ‘nowcasts’ and bulletins issued by the Meteorological Centre, Shimla.”
Alert for Arunachal Pradesh
On the other hand, there have been reports of floods and landslides again in East Siang and Kamle districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning at some places in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday. An alert has been issued for Papum Pare and East Kameng districts, where very heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm is expected at some places, while 6-11 cm of heavy rainfall is expected in Anjav. The Meteorological Department has warned that continuous rains can cause local floods, waterlogging, landslides, traffic disruptions and damage to weak infrastructure. The Meteorological Department has also warned about accidents due to overflowing rivers and drains, flooding of fields and slippery roads and paths submerged in water. Officials said the administration has intensified preparedness measures with round-the-clock monitoring, coordination and emergency response. He said that an advisory has been issued for the people, asking them to remain alert, avoid non-essential travel and strictly follow the instructions of the district administration.
