Another new twist has come in the ongoing political turmoil in Tamil Nadu. Governor R.V. Sources in Arlekar’s office have said that actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay has not been invited for the swearing-in as Chief Minister tomorrow. The reason for this is that he could not prove the support of 118 MLAs required for majority in the 234-member state assembly. According to sources, Vijay held talks with VCK, AMMK and an IUML MLA to support TVK, but they could not succeed in garnering the necessary support. Sources further said that till now Vijay has the support of only 116 MLAs, two less than the majority.
DMK and AIADMK hint at coming together
It is being said that Vijay could not give the letter of support received from VCK and IUML to the Governor. Later IUML and AMMK also refused to be part of the TVK-led alliance. Meanwhile, the AIADMK is exploring the possibility of breaking away from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance as speculations of a political pact with the DMK to form the government are rife. This development comes after Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar once again rejected TVK chief Vijay’s request to form government, citing his failure to get majority in the Assembly.
However, TVK followed Rajpal’s rejection by arguing that there were several instances where the single largest party was invited to form the government despite not having a clear majority. The party said that it is confident of proving its strength in the House. But looking at all the developments, it seems that Vijay’s swearing in will not be possible tomorrow i.e. on Saturday.
