A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Here a taxi driver was fatally attacked and left for dead in the forest. The driver’s life was saved due to the prompt action of the police and both the accused have been arrested.
On April 19, Pratap Singh, resident of village Padela, Post Office Tehri, lodged a complaint at police station Majhin that his elder brother Mehar Singh, who is a taxi driver by profession, had left home in a taxi on April 17, but did not return for two days.
The youth had hired a taxi
As soon as the complaint was received, the police registered a missing case and started investigation. During the investigation, it came to light that on April 17 at around 1:30 pm, two youths had hired a taxi driver for a gig. The accused have been identified as Amit Kaushal (23) and Suresh Kumar (19), residents of Tehri area.
Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a dispute between the accused and the driver over some issue near Kaloha. After this, the accused took the driver towards a deserted road and attacked him with a knife and tried to kill him by strangulating him with a rope. Considering the driver dead, the accused threw him in the forest and fled.

The police took immediate action on the basis of technical and physical evidence and arrested both the accused. On their information, on April 19, the driver was recovered from the forest in a critical condition. The injured driver was immediately rushed to the hospital, where after first aid he was referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda.
Police have sealed the incident site and started forensic investigation. A case has been registered against both the accused and further investigation is underway. Police say that based on the evidence, strict legal action will be ensured against the accused.
