If your bank account is in Punjab National Bank (PNB), then this news is very important for you. The bank has decided to close some such accounts in which there has been no transaction from the customer for the last three years and whose balance is also zero. To save such accounts from closure, customers will have to complete the necessary procedures by November 10, 2026. The bank says that this step is being taken to prevent misuse of inactive accounts and reduce the risk associated with them.
Which PNB accounts will the bank close?
According to PNB’s notice dated October 26, 2026, those accounts in which there has been no transaction from the customer for the last three years till September 30, 2026 and no amount has been deposited in the account, can be closed. If customers want to keep their account active, they will have to go to their nearest PNB branch and complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process and get the account reactivated. It is necessary to do this work before 10 November 2026. If the process is not completed by the deadline, there will be a risk of the account being closed.
It is also important to update KYC
PNB has also reminded customers that it is mandatory to update KYC as per the guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Customers whose last date for updating KYC was 30 September 2026, have been asked to complete this work by 31 October 2026. The bank has warned that if KYC is not updated within the stipulated time, the operation of the account may be banned or restrictions may be imposed.
Update KYC like this sitting at home
PNB customers have many options to update KYC. If there is no change in your existing KYC information, you can also complete the process through SMS. For this, write KYCNC and send SMS to 9264092640 or 5607040. Apart from this, log in to PNB ONE mobile app and select My Profile > Check KYC Status > Update KYC option. KYC status can also be checked through Internet Banking by going to Personal Settings. Customers can also send the request to update KYC through their registered email or through post. For this, self-attested copies of the required documents and request will have to be sent to your home branch. If you want, you can also get your KYC updated by visiting any PNB branch.
Keep in mind the time limit
If your PNB account has not been used for a long time or your KYC is yet to be updated, check your status as soon as possible. Completing the necessary procedures in a timely manner can help avoid possible account restrictions or closure.
