A big news has come out from Tamil Nadu today, in which Tamil Nadu Police arrested three people in connection with an alleged attempt to destabilize the Vijay led government. This action was taken by ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) MLA N. After Ilaiyaraaja’s allegations. He had claimed that he was offered Rs 35 crore to vote in favor of the motion against the Assembly Speaker. So far 3 people have been arrested in this connection, the heat of the investigation may also fall on former minister Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar. Tamil Nadu Minister P. Nirmal Kumar claimed that DMK was trying to woo ruling party MLAs to its side for the last 40 days.
What did the MLA allege?
The matter came to light when TVK MLA from Uthangarai N. Ilaiyaraaja filed a complaint with the Chennai Police. He alleged that a person from IPDS consultancy firm offered him Rs 35 crore to support the no-confidence motion against Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker and TVK leader JCD Prabhakar. The MLA also alleged that he was later threatened and told not to speak about the offer to anyone.
What did the police tell?
According to a police press release issued on Wednesday, the investigation has also revealed the names of former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji and his brother V. Ashok Kumar for allegedly being linked to the conspiracy. According to the complaint filed by Ilaiyaraaja with the Chennai Police Commissioner on June 29, he was contacted by a person named Thirunavukkarasu. He claimed to be the head of an opinion polling organization named ‘Indian Political Democratic Strategies’ (IPDS) and was talking to members of a major political party on their behalf.
What was the conspiracy?
It is alleged that the caller later told the TVK MLA that a motion would be brought against the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly and asked him to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion despite being a member of the ruling party. In return, he offered Ilaiyaraaja up to Rs 35 crore. The MLA alleged that he rejected the offer and told the caller not to contact him again. However, it is alleged that Thirunavukkarasu threatened him and warned that if he mentioned this conversation, he and his family would have to face consequences.
The Intelligence Department of Tamil Nadu Police also got wind of the fact that a conspiracy was being hatched to topple the government by buying at least 15 TVK MLAs. Police said that subsequent investigation revealed that V. Ashok Kumar, brother of former DMK minister and Coimbatore South MLA V. Senthil Balaji, had met Naresh in Chennai. Investigators also allege that Thirunavakkarasu had contacted Ilaiyaraaja at the behest of Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar.
