ACMA said on Monday that this situation is not as difficult as the Covid pandemic, but if it is not resolved soon, it may get worse. The Indian Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) represents more than 1,064 companies. These manufacturers contribute more than 90 percent of the total turnover of the auto component industry in the organized sector.
Workers were using small gas burners to cook food.
“Laborers had started using small gas burners for cooking as burning of wood was discouraged due to air pollution,” said Vinny Mehta, director general of ACMA. Now, they are finding it difficult to cook food at home due to shortage of LPG cylinders. Also, the canteens of some factories are also closed, due to which they are forced to return to their villages.” The total turnover of the auto component industry in the financial year 2024-25 was $ 80.2 billion. This includes exports of $22.9 billion and trade surplus of $500 million. The US-Israel war over Iran has caused disruptions in gas supplies.
Focus on domestic consumers, industry is not getting gas
The government is paying more attention to domestic consumers, due to which the industry is not able to get commercial LPG. In view of this problem, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas constituted a committee on March 9, which will consider the complaints and suggestions of the industry. Due to the West Asia crisis, the government has changed the priority list for allocation of domestically produced natural gas.
ACMA wrote a letter to the Ministry of Heavy Industries
In a letter to the Ministry of Heavy Industries last week, ACMA had said the industry is deeply interconnected with global vehicle value chains. If timely assistance is provided in the current geopolitical turmoil, it will ensure continuity of exports and India’s competitiveness in international markets.
