Ankita Bhandari’s parents, who were protesting at India Gate in the murder case, are released from police custody, many Congress leaders are still detained.

New Delhi: Ankita’s parents, who were on strike in the fight for justice for Uttarakhand’s daughter Ankita Bhandari, have now been released after being detained by the police. Last night, Delhi Police had detained Congress leaders and workers along with the parents of Ankita Bhandari who were sitting on protest near India Gate. Later the police released Ankita’s parents. The police have still kept some Congress leaders in custody.

Actually, on Wednesday, Ankita’s parents sat on a dharna at India Gate. Within no time, Congress leaders started politics on this. Slogans were raised loudly against Modi government and police. Congress leaders kept raising slogans for several hours. After this, late night the police and para military forces detained Congress leaders, workers and Ankita’s parents.

The protest lasted all night

According to the information, Ankita Bhandari’s parents along with Congress leaders staged a protest at India Gate throughout the night. Everyone was taken into custody at around four in the morning. Congress strongly condemned this step of the police. Congress leaders accused the protesters of misbehavior and targeting those demanding justice for Ankita. This protest is being organized against the appointment of BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim. Ankita Bhandari’s parents demand that the appointment of Dushyant Kumar be put on hold until the CBI probe into the alleged VIP angle in the murder case.

Demand to cancel Dushyant Gautam’s appointment

Ankita’s family said that if justice is not provided, there will be protests across the country until their daughter gets justice. He said that first of all our demand is that the appointment of Dushyant Gautam should be cancelled. If the appointment is not cancelled, we will once again have to take to the streets across the country and my daughter should get justice.

Ankita was murdered in September 2022

Earlier on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi met Ankita’s parents during the dharna. Let us tell you that Ankita Bhandari used to work in a resort in Uttarakhand. He was murdered in September 2022. His body was found from Chilla Canal on 24 September the same year. Resort owner Pulkit Arya and two employees, Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta, were sentenced to life imprisonment on May 30, 2025 for murder, destruction of evidence and other crimes.
