Giving great relief to the farmers of Uttar Pradesh, the government has taken an important decision regarding wheat procurement. Now farmers will be able to sell their crops at government procurement centers even without online registration. An official statement issued on Monday said that ‘Kisan Registry’, which is a digital process of farmer identification and crop verification, will no longer be mandatory. According to PTI news, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the problems faced by the farmers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all the District Magistrates to implement this order with immediate effect.
Middlemen were forced to sell wheat at low prices
In fact, earlier this year the farmer registry was mandated to sell wheat at the minimum support price (MSP). But a large number of farmers could not get registered, due to which they were deprived of selling their crops at government centers and were forced to sell wheat to middlemen at low prices. Seeing this problem of farmers, the Chief Minister intervened and relaxed the rules. Under the new order, now farmers will be able to sell wheat at government procurement centers without registration like before.
Farmers should not face any inconvenience
The Chief Minister also made it clear that farmers should not face any inconvenience at the procurement centres. In view of the scorching heat, instructions have been given to ensure adequate arrangements of drinking water, fans, shade and other necessary facilities. According to data from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, till 11 am on April 20, more than 2.38 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from more than 42,000 farmers in the state. So far, more than 4.77 lakh farmers have registered for wheat sale, while more than 5,400 procurement centers have been set up across the state.
This decision of the government is proving to be a far-sighted step for the farmers. This will not only make the entire process of wheat procurement faster and simpler. It is expected that the procurement figure will increase rapidly in the coming days, due to which more and more farmers will benefit and wheat procurement in the state may exceed the target.
