PSL: A big controversy related to Pakistan Super League has come to light, where taking strict action, Pakistan Cricket Board has banned Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder and captain Dasun Shanaka for one year. This decision has been taken in the matter of his sudden withdrawal from PSL, which has created a stir in the cricket world. Actually, before the start of IPL 2026, Dasun Shanaka was included in their team by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Sam Curran. Angered by this, PCB has now taken action against Shanaka.
The investigation conducted by the PCB found that Dasun Shanaka unilaterally withdrew from the tournament on March 21, 2026, in violation of player registration rules and the tripartite agreement. According to the board, the reasons he cited were not valid within the scope of the contract. Although during the hearing, Shanaka expressed regret for his mistake and mentioned his passion for playing in Pakistan, but the PCB passed a strict decision to maintain the reputation of the league.
Shanaka out of PSL 2027
Under this decision, Dasun Shanaka will no longer be able to participate in the next season of Pakistan Super League i.e. PSL 2027. On PCB’s move, Shanaka said that it deeply regrets its decision to withdraw from the PSL and offers its sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, PSL fans and the wider cricket community. The PSL is a prestigious tournament and he fully understands how disappointing his move was. He sincerely apologizes to the loyal fans of Lahore Qalandars.
Shanaka further said that he wanted to make it clear that when he left the PSL, he had no intention of playing in any other tournament. He has great respect for Pakistani fans and has always enjoyed his time in Pakistan. He hopes that he will be able to return to PSL in the future with new commitment and confidence of the fans.
PCB’s stance clear
PCB has made it clear that it will not compromise on the contracts and professional standards of its players, so that the credibility and future of PSL can be protected. This ban imposed on Dasun Shanaka is a strong message for other players as well that strict action is certain for violating the rules of the league. Now it will be interesting to see how Shanaka makes a comeback in PSL in future.
