The National Inter State Athletics Championship 2026 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar witnessed a historic performance by 25-year-old female athlete Ansi Sojan from Kerala in the long jump event. Ansi Sojan has created a new national record with a jump of 6.88 meters in the long jump event at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship. Ansi Sojan had already secured a ticket to participate in the Asian Games 2026 by jumping 6.76 meters in the Federation Cup held in Ranchi. At the same time, Ansi Sojan has now registered it in her name by breaking the 22 year old national record of 6.83 meter long jump of veteran Indian female athlete Anju Bobby George.
Ansi Sojan created a new national record in her 5th attempt.
Ansi Sojan has been performing consistently well for the last few years. In the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship, Sojan managed to create a new national record with a jump of 6.83 meters in her 5th attempt. Anju Bobby George made a national record by jumping 6.83 meters in the 2004 Athens Olympics, which till now was in her name. Ansi Sojan is only the second female athlete in Asia in the last 20 years who has been successful in jumping more than 6.85 meters in long jump. With this achievement, Ansi Sojan has become the 8th best female long jumper in Asia.
Has won silver medal in Asian Games
Talking about 25-year-old female athlete Ansi Sojan from Kerala, she won the silver medal in the 2023 Asian Games with a jump of 6.63 meters. After this he won the silver medal in the Asian Athletics Championship 2025. Now all eyes are on Ansi Sojan’s performance in the Asian Games to be held in Japan in which she is expected to win a gold medal.
