Preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 are currently going on. Qualifier rounds are currently going on among the teams which will not be able to qualify directly, whose points table has become quite interesting. Meanwhile, till now neither the ICC has announced its schedule nor has it told which team will be in this group. Whatever has happened before, it can be guessed that when the World Cup will be held next year, which teams will be in India’s group. Also the big question is whether ICC will keep India and Pakistan in the same group again.
A total of 14 teams will play in the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027.
ICC has already announced that a total of 14 teams will participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup. The top 8 teams will come directly from the ICC ODI rankings, while the rest of the teams will be decided after the qualifier round. Two groups will be formed for the 14 teams that will play next year’s World Cup. That means there will be seven teams together. Group A and Group B will be created for these. On the basis of what has been happening earlier, it can be understood that ICC divides the teams in the groups according to ICC ranking or in other words, seeding. So that no one group becomes too heavy and the other remains light. There should be balance between the two.
Team India is currently at number one in ICC ODI rankings.
Actually, ICC has already decided that the teams will be announced after the ODI ranking which will be held on March 31, 2027. But there will not be much change in the ICC rankings in the coming times. That means teams will move one or two places forward or backward. Meanwhile, Team India is currently at number one in the ICC ODI rankings. There is very little chance that the Indian team will go below this till 31 March 2027. If we look at the old pattern, it shows that India will lead a group, it is possible that it will be Group A only.
There may be a clash between India and Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2027
Now the question is which six other teams can be in India’s group. The biggest question is whether Pakistan will be kept in the same group as India. Its possibility is very high. We have already told you that after the first round, when the top 6 teams go to Super 6, then the teams will not play the match again with the team of their group. There will be a fear that if the Pakistani team does not reach Super 6 then the great match between India and Pakistan will not be possible. Therefore, it is believed that ICC can take an important decision to keep India and Pakistan in the same group.
The issue of revenue is related to India Pakistan match
The main reason for keeping India and Pakistan in the same group is revenue. Broadcasters want India and Pakistan to be in the same group, so that everyone keeps an eye on this match, this generates huge revenue, which is not possible from any other match. Sometimes even the final of any tournament lags behind the India vs Pakistan match.
Apart from Pakistan, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka can also come in India’s group.
Pakistan team is currently at number four in the ICC ODI rankings. Meanwhile, it would also not be right if the top team plays the fourth ranked team directly. In such a situation, to create balance, the second-ranked team can also come into India’s group, which is currently New Zealand’s. This time the World Cup is going to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The teams of South Africa and Zimbabwe have already confirmed their places. A decision is yet to be taken regarding Namibia. That means one host country will remain in India’s group. There is a possibility that this could be the Zimbabwean team. If not then South African team can come. Apart from this, one Asian team from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan can also be seen in India’s group.
The qualifying team will also get a chance to play against India.
The names of many teams which will play the World Cup are not finalized yet. If Netherlands and Scotland qualify for this, then the arrival of one of these teams is almost certain. That is, if we estimate in this way, then India’s group may have one team from Pakistan, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Scotland and another team from the qualifiers. However, nothing is certain yet. ICC may make an announcement in this regard in April next year. Let us remind you that the ODI World Cup is to be organized from October to November next year. In which there is still a lot of time left.
