After the incident, the plane made an emergency landing in Tabuk city of Saudi Arabia. According to the Indian Embassy, Captain Smit’s condition is now stable after the surgery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised Captain Smit Machar and said that he showed extraordinary patience, wisdom and courage. PM Modi said that despite being seriously injured, Captain Smit helped save hundreds of lives and played a role in averting a major tragedy. PM Modi also wished for his speedy and complete recovery.

Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar praised Captain Smit’s bravery. He said that Captain Smit’s courage and determination helped save the lives of the passengers on board the plane. Captain Smit Machar has also previously worked in Spices. SpiceJet appreciated his courage. The company said it pays tribute to the bravery shown by flydubai’s FZ1073 and wishes him a speedy recovery. According to SpiceJet, Captain Smit has served with the company for more than 10 years. The company cited his courage and dedication as an example of its values. According to available information, Smit joined flydubai in June 2022 and before that had worked in SpiceJet for about 11 years.

What happened in flight FZ1073?
