New Delhi: After the Election Commission on Saturday issued a statement on the Special Intensive Review (SIR), BJP national president Nitin Naveen alleged that the Congress had based its allegations on a “fabricated lie” to attack the Commission. Nitin Naveen said in a post on ‘X’, “The opposition has once again been exposed for misleading the public on the issue of SIR.”
Constitutional institutions attacked-Naveen
This comment of BJP chief Naveen has come at a time when the Election Commission’s statement said that all the orders related to SIR were issued with the approval of the three Election Commissioners and the changes made in Form-6 for voter registration have been upheld by the Supreme Court. The BJP president alleged, “The Election Commission has made it clear that every decision related to SIR was taken unanimously by the Commission. “Yet, Congress made allegations based on a fabricated lie and attacked our constitutional institutions.”
Resorting to “malicious propaganda” is “extremely unfortunate”
Naveen said that the hypocritical attitude of the Congress and its allies is evident from the fact that when the same electoral process gives them victory in states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu, they easily accept its credibility. “But when the mandate goes against them elsewhere, they start questioning the very institutions that conduct these elections,” he said. Democracy cannot be respected selectively.” The BJP chief also said victory and defeat are a natural part of democracy, but resorting to ”malicious propaganda” to undermine the credibility of respected constitutional institutions is ”extremely unfortunate”.

Issuing a statement, Election Commission of India Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal said, “Today, on 26 September 2026, a meeting of the Election Commission of India was held at 3:00 pm at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi. The Commission clarified that all decisions related to Special Revision (SIR) of voter lists have been taken with the consensus of the three Commissioners and following the legal procedures.
