The flood situation in Assam worsened significantly on Monday. Due to continuous rains, the water level of various rivers has once again increased, affecting more than 3.63 lakh people in 15 districts. This information has been given by the Assam government. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of people affected by the flood was more than 57,100 in seven districts on Sunday, which increased to more than 3.63 lakh in several revenue divisions of 15 districts on Monday.
Roads, bridges and other public infrastructure damaged
According to the government bulletin, the number of people who lost their lives in this year’s floods is 5. Currently, a total of 580 villages are submerged in water, while 10,362.9 hectares of crop area has been damaged. Embankments, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure have been damaged by flood waters in many districts.
Rivers flowing above danger mark
Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat, while its tributaries Buridhing at Khowang, Dikhau at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat and Dhansiri at Numaligarh are also flowing above the danger mark.
Indian Army deployed
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the Indian Army has been deployed to rescue stranded people in several districts of Upper Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that four ministers have been sent to the affected areas to monitor relief and rescue operations.

In Assam’s capital Guwahati, a warning has been issued of more rain in the city in the next 24 hours, due to which the situation is likely to worsen. Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapnil Paul said that landslides have been reported at at least 5 places.
However, there is no information so far about any casualty, he said. The affected areas include Kamakhya Main Road ahead of Prasanthi Lodge, Kamakhya Colony near Ganesh Temple, West Kamakhya Village near water tanker, Pandu Temple Ghat and Madhavdevnagar of Maligaon. (Input-PTI)
