Koraput: Due to continuous rains for the last three days in Koraput district of Odisha, flood like situation has arisen in many areas. The continuous rains due to the low pressure area have badly affected life. Borigumma and Kotpada blocks of the district are among the worst affected areas.
Due to continuous rains the water level of Chamri river has also increased. Traffic between Bena and Gunjiguda villages has been affected due to rising water in the river. Local people are facing difficulty in reaching each other village.
Effect of rain in Kundura block also
The effect of rain is clearly visible in Kundura block also. Here about two feet of water is flowing above the Nadiyalopalli bridge. Due to increasing water flow, road connectivity between Kundura, Digapur and Jaipur has been disrupted.
Seeing the situation, Kundura block administration and Boipariguda police reached the spot. The administration and police have put up barricades on both sides of the bridge and the movement of people has been completely stopped.
Due to the closure of this road, people of about three to four panchayats are facing problems. People of these panchayats connect to Kundura block through this route.
Digapur and surrounding areas filled with water
Due to continuous rain overnight, Digapur and surrounding areas have also been flooded. There is waterlogging at many places, due to which the movement of people has been affected.
At the same time, after opening three gates of Indravati reservoir and releasing water, the situation has become more serious in some parts of Kotpad block. Connectivity has been affected in many areas due to the rise in flood water after the release of water from the reservoir.
Asna and Baniya villages under Guali Panchayat have been completely cut off by flood waters. These villages have lost contact with the surrounding areas.
Relief and rescue work also continues
Relief and rescue work is also going on to help people in flood affected areas. During this time, the courage of a tractor driver has come to light. He is busy delivering relief material to the affected people with a tractor amid the flood waters.
A tractor driver is seen moving forward carrying relief material amid submerged roads and increased water level. His efforts to deliver essential goods to the flood affected people are playing an important role in the relief work.
Road connectivity and normal movement of people has been affected in many parts of Koraput due to incessant rains. Administration and police teams have reached the affected areas and are keeping an eye on the situation.
Earlier, the effect of ARNAB cyclone was seen in Odisha and a big tree had fallen due to rain and strong winds. Along with this, traffic was coming to a standstill for 2 hours. (Report- Shubham Kumar)
