111 MPs-MLAs who won the elections after 2022 have changed their parties, the report of Association for Democratic Reforms i.e. ADR and National Election Watch has come regarding this. According to their analysis, 111 MPs and MLAs changed their political parties after winning the elections to Parliament and Assemblies between 2022 and 2026. Leaders from Nagaland and West Bengal were among the leaders who changed parties the most.
Those who switched sides included 33 MPs and 78 MLAs.
The elections and by-elections held during that period have also been included in this report. It was found that after 2022, 26 Lok Sabha members, 7 Rajya Sabha members and 78 MLAs have changed their parties. According to ADR, these cases include leaders changing parties, merger of parties, winning by-elections after resignation and leaders winning seats in by-elections after being disqualified.
32 MLAs joined NPF
Maximum 32 such cases were reported in Nagaland and MLAs were involved in all of them. Most of these cases were related to the alliance between the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party i.e. NDPP and Naga People’s Front i.e. NPF. According to ADR’s analysis, NPF got the maximum number of MLAs. Overall, 25 MLAs elected from the NDPP were among those who switched parties, while a total of 32 MLAs joined the NPF.
20 TMC MPs join NCPI
At the same time, 20 such cases were reported in West Bengal, in which all the MPs were involved. According to the analysis, all these 20 MPs had originally won the elections on All India Trinamool Congress ticket and later joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India i.e. NCPI. These MPs have claimed to merge with NCPI, but this matter is still with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Recently 8 UDP MLAs joined BJP
It is noteworthy that recently in Meghalaya also 8 MLAs had changed sides. 8 UDP MLAs had joined BJP. These included Lakhmen Rymbui, Pius Marven, Kirmen Shyalla, Myrhalborn Siem, Matthew Kurbah, Olan Singh Suin, Balajid Kupar Sinrem and Sinshar Lyngdoh Thabah.
