During practice on Friday (September 25) evening, captain Shubman Gill was hit by a ball from Mohammad Siraj in his right elbow, due to which he got injured. After the ball was hit, he was immediately taken out of the nets and his elbow was bandaged. Gill remained away from the field for more than half an hour. After this he did not practice batting. This makes it clear that his injury is not serious and he can be seen captaining in the first match. It is very important for Gill to remain fit for the Indian team, because he has been India’s most successful batsman in ODI in the year 2026. This year, he has performed brilliantly in 8 innings of 9 matches, scoring 561 runs at an average of 93.50, which includes one century and 5 half-centuries.

Shortly before the captain got injured in the practice session, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli practiced batting together in the nets for about 20 minutes. Virat Kohli looked in excellent form after being left out of the last home series against Afghanistan. Both the players hit many brilliant shots with ease against the Indian bowlers and local net bowlers. Earlier, Rohit Sharma had scored a brilliant century in his last ODI at Lord’s.
