New Delhi: The ongoing student movement against the paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has now got the support of Muslim organizations as well. A resolution was passed in support of the students’ movement at the national consultation meeting of Muslim leaders and intellectuals organized by Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR). Many Muslim leaders and intellectuals including Congress leader Salman Khurshid, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Sarwar Chishti of Ajmer Dargah attended this meeting. The meeting criticized the police action against the students and expressed solidarity with the students protesting across the country.
Mehbooba Mufti said, ‘Today the entire country has become Kashmir’
Addressing the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti said that today the situation in the country is worrying and the most injustice is being done to the youth. He said, ‘Today the whole of India has become Kashmir. The circumstances are in front of everyone. At present, the most atrocities are being committed against the youth who are considered the future of the country. Papers are being leaked and youth who are protesting peacefully are being beaten with sticks.
Salman Khurshid announced support for students
Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said that students across the country are agitating for their issues without being associated with any political party and their voice should be heard. He said, ‘A large number of people are participating in the student protests taking place across India and they have no connection with any political faction. We have also strongly supported the students’ movement. We strongly condemn the way the students were treated. We hope that the government will communicate with the students in a better way and positive results will emerge in the times to come.
Many proposals passed in the meeting of Muslim leaders
During the meeting, several resolutions were passed under the ‘New Delhi Declaration in Support of the Rights of Muslims in India’. The resolution condemned the use of force by Delhi Police on students and youth protesting against the paper leak in New Delhi on 20 July 2026. It said that more than 100 people were injured in the police action, which is a violation of the rights granted under Article 19(1)(a), 19(1)(b) and Article 21 of the Constitution. In the meeting, a demand was also made to conduct an independent and time bound judicial investigation into this entire matter and to register an FIR against the responsible officials.
