Una: Common people are facing problems due to rain in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. The sudden flood in Swan river in Amb sub-division of the district once again exposed the lack of permanent bridges in the area and the helplessness of the people. Meanwhile, a pickup vehicle going from Nandpur towards Kuthehra got stuck in the river amid the strong current. It was fortunate that the local villagers showed courage and wisdom and pulled out all three people in the vehicle safely, thereby averting a major accident.

Pickup stuck in strong current

According to the information, the pickup was passing through a temporary route built on the Swan River. Meanwhile, due to heavy rain in the hilly areas, the water level of the river suddenly increased and the strong current surrounded the vehicle from all sides within a few moments. The pickup got stuck in the median and the lives of the people traveling in it were in danger. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the villagers saw the vehicle stuck in the river, they immediately reached the spot to help. Risking his life, he pulled out all three people safely after a lot of effort. Later, the pickup stuck in the middle of the swollen river was also taken out safely by calling Poklane/JCB from a nearby crusher industry.

Villagers expressed displeasure

After the incident, there was resentment among the local people towards the administration. Villagers say that there is not a single permanent bridge in the approximately 40 kilometer long stretch of Swan River from Ghalubal to Mubarikpur. In such a situation, people of dozens of villages have to depend on temporary bridges and unpaved river routes for daily transportation, which prove fatal during the rainy season. The villagers alleged that every monsoon they have to travel risking their lives, but no concrete steps have been taken so far for a permanent solution. He has demanded from the administration and government to build permanent bridges on Swan River soon, so that such incidents can be prevented in future. (Input- Kapil Thakur)
