For the passengers traveling by air, there is going to be a little more burden on the pockets from 6th October i.e. today. Indigo, one of the country’s largest airline companies, has increased the fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights in view of the rising prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). This will have a direct impact on the total price of the ticket.
According to Indigo, the new fuel surcharge has come into effect from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026. In domestic flights, the surcharge has been increased depending on the distance traveled. It has been increased by ₹100 to ₹350 for different distances. This change means that while booking tickets, passengers will have to pay more fuel surcharge than before in addition to the base fare. However, the increase in final ticket price may vary depending on the route, date of travel, seats available and other charges.
Fuel surcharge will have to be paid according to distance.
The new distance based surcharge rates for domestic flights are as follows:
- Up to 500 km ₹375
- ₹600 on 501-1,000 km
- ₹900 at 1,001-1,500 km
- ₹1,150 on 1,501-2,000 km
- ₹1,300 for more than 2,000 km
