Earlier this record was in the name of Nehru, who served as the elected PM for 4,398 consecutive days from May 1952 to May 27, 1964, after the country’s first general election.

After India gained independence, Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister as the head of the interim government from 1947 to 1952. Although the first general elections in the country were held in 1951-52. Therefore his tenure as elected Prime Minister is counted from May 1952. According to political analysts, this record of Prime Minister Modi is also considered important because it is the record of continuous and elected tenure. The total tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was about 14 years, but it was not continuous.

Modi government completes 12 years
