New Delhi: BJP has announced candidates for the by-elections of Bihar and Maharashtra Legislative Council. BJP has fielded Surya Kumar Sharma (Arvind Sharma) from Bihar and Pragya Rajeev Satav from Maharashtra.

At the same time, BJP has also announced the names of 5 candidates for the biennial elections of the Legislative Council to be held in Maharashtra. This includes the names of Sunil Karjatkar, Madhavi Naik, Sanjay Nathuji Bhende, Vivek Bipindada Kolhe and Pramod Shantaram Jathar.

Know about the candidates

Karjatkar is an experienced party worker, having played the role of strategist for some state elections in the past. He was once close to BJP leader late Pramod Mahajan.

Vivek Kolhe is the son of former party MLA Snehlata Kolhe. He did not contest the 2024 assembly elections as the Kopargaon assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district was allotted to ally Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Sanjay Bhende was the in-charge of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and is currently the Chairman of Nagpur Urban Cooperative Bank.

Party state unit general secretary Madhavi Naik, who hails from Thane, has also been nominated by the party to the upper house of the state assembly.

Pramod Jathar is from Sindhudurg and is a former MLA of the party.

The biennial election is scheduled to be held on May 12. The last date for filing nominations is April 30, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on May 2 and candidates can withdraw their nominations till May 4. Voting will take place on May 12 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes will take place at 5 pm on the same day. The election process is expected to be completed by May 13.

Bihar MLC by-election schedule

Voting will take place on May 12 from 8 am to 4 pm, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 14. This process will be completed by May 15.
