If your hair is growing slower than before or is constantly breaking, the reason for this may not just be the weather or hair products, but also some of your daily habits. Expensive shampoos or serums alone are not enough for good hair growth. Proper scalp care and balanced diet are equally important. Let us know about such habits, by adopting which you can help in improving hair growth.
Follow these tips for hair growth:
- Massage your scalp: Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Massaging the scalp gently for 5 to 10 minutes daily or 3-4 times a week can improve blood circulation. This helps in reaching oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles, which can support hair growth. Hair oil containing coconut, almond or rosemary can be used for massage.
- Make pre-wash scalp oiling a part of your routine: Lightly apply oil to the scalp 30 minutes to 2 hours before washing hair. This is called pre-wash oiling. This provides moisture to the scalp, reduces dryness and also protects to some extent from the damage caused while washing hair. Keep in mind that instead of rubbing the oil very forcefully, apply it with light hands.
- Do not let there be lack of nutrients in the diet: Hair is mainly made of protein, so it is important to take adequate protein. Apart from this, nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, biotin, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and vitamin C are also considered important for hair health. Include pulses, cheese, eggs (if eaten), soya, nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits in your diet.
- Take care of stress and sleep: Continuous stress and less sleep can also affect hair growth. Get 7–8 hours of good sleep daily and make activities like yoga, meditation or light exercise a part of your daily routine.
