Recently the actress recalled this tragic incident and told how she saw her father leaving for work in the morning, and then he was brought back in a coffin 7 days later. In 1994, Nimrat’s father was kidnapped by terrorists and then murdered, after which the life of her family changed completely. After this, his mother raised him and his sister and brought life back on track.

Indian Army officer was Major Bhupendra Singh

Nimrat Kaur’s father Major Bhupendra Singh was an Indian Army officer, who was posted in Kashmir. It was 1994, when Nimrat Kaur’s father was kidnapped while returning from duty and then murdered. Major Bhupendra Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.

‘I saw my father go to work, then saw him in the coffin’

Speaking to news agency ANI, Nimrat Kaur talked about the last glimpse of her father. Nimrat told that she last saw her father going for duty, after which he returned in the coffin. Nimrat says, ‘That morning I saw my father going for duty. I just remember that moment, then when I saw him, he was in the coffin. My family never got any closure. It’s a very strange feeling even after so many years. A few decades have passed, but there is nothing that can fill that void. Not for me, not for my mother, not for my sister, not for the family.

The terrorists came wearing soldier’s uniform

Nimrat Kaur told that her father was kidnapped when he was returning from duty and the people who kidnapped him were in army uniform. He said- ‘It was also an ordinary day when he was kidnapped. He was returning from duty and during this time some people wearing army uniform came and kidnapped him. For the next seven days the kidnappers continued to make a number of demands, including the release of their people imprisoned in India. He made other demands for the release of other people held hostage in India and within seven days.

Nirat’s family was in Kashmir

Nimrat tells that in those days her family was in Kashmir, but when the situation became unsafe, they were taken to Srinagar. On the seventh day the family got the news that Bhupendra Singh was no more. After which he and his family came to know that he had talked about his family while being held hostage. He had said- ‘I have a family, two daughters.’ After the death of Major Bhupendra Singh, Nimrat, her mother and sister shifted to Noida, where her maternal grandparents lived.

Nimrat Kaur’s work front

Talking about work, Nimrat Kaur will now be seen in ‘Section 84’. It is a courtroom drama, starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role along with Nimrat Kaur. The shooting of the film has been completed and it is likely to be released this year. Apart from this, she can also be seen in an untitled detective comedy film, in which Sunny Kaushal and Medha Shankar are in the lead roles. Recently, Nimrat was in the news for another reason. The actress had gone to Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, pictures of which she also shared on social media.
