There is news of great relief for lakhs of farmers of Maharashtra. On the first day of the monsoon session of the Assembly, the state government has made a big announcement by making a provision of ₹ 20,552 crore for loan waiver of farmers. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented supplementary demands worth about ₹97,706 crore in the Assembly, in which the largest share has been earmarked for farmers. The government says that this will provide economic relief to the farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
The government has made a provision of ₹20,552 crore under the Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana 2026. This amount will be spent to reduce the debt burden of farmers and improve their economic condition. However, the opposition is continuously demanding unconditional complete loan waiver.
Supplementary demand of ₹97,706 crore presented in the Assembly
The state government has presented supplementary demands totaling ₹97,706.40 crore. Of this, ₹13,825 crore is earmarked for mandatory expenditure, ₹66,559 crore for various schemes and ₹17,321 crore for centrally sponsored schemes. The actual additional burden on the exchequer after adjustment and recovery will be ₹74,817 crore.
Focus also on electricity, employment and rural development
The government has also allocated huge amounts for many other important schemes. A provision of ₹10,007 crore has been made for interest free loan under the Centre’s Capital Investment Assistance Scheme. At the same time, ₹ 8,000 crore has been kept for loan and interest payment of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). A provision of ₹7,367 crore has been made for Rural Employment and Livelihood Mission, ₹4,000 crore for electricity bill payment of government offices and ₹3,076 crore for Amrit 2.0 scheme.
Social schemes also got a boost
The government has made a provision of ₹2,000 crore for the beneficiaries of the Shravanbal Seva State Pension Scheme and ₹1,874 crore for the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana. ₹1,734 crore has also been allocated for honorarium and salaries of Anganwadi workers.
Farmers and rural economy will get strength
The government claims that this budget is a big step towards strengthening farmers, rural development, employment and social security. The huge provision made for loan waiver is being seen as a big relief for the farmers of the state, which can give new strength to the agriculture sector in the coming times.
