Many brands of solar panels are available in India, which you can install on the rooftops of your house. Recently, the government has changed the policy regarding solar panels, under which to get subsidy under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, you will have to get the panels installed from the new ALMM i.e. Approved List of Models and Manufacturers. Only those companies have been included in this list, which manufacture solar cells in India and sell them in the market.

With subsidy, installing a 10 kilowatt solar system will cost you between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Apart from the solar panel, it also includes the cost of components like solar inverter, DCDB (DC distribution box), ACDB (AC distribution box), wire, earthing etc. If you want to install battery backup, you may have to spend separately for this.

Whereas, to install a non-subsidized solar system, you will have to spend between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 7 lakh. Apart from the solar panel, it includes the components used in it. Battery cost may come separately. If you consume 700 to 1000 units of electricity every month, then a 10 kW solar system will reduce your monthly bill to zero.

On a 10 kilowatt solar system, you can run the entire household load including 2 to 3 air conditioners (with 1.5 ton inverter technology), 2 horse power water pump or submersible, fridge, washing machine, mixer, geyser. This system is generally installed in large homes and shops as well as for commercial use. For basic use, you can install a 3 to 5 kilowatt system.
